The main reason to change Elon’s plan is their new product Tesla Model 3, which were unveiled on March has received 400,000 pre-orders. According to Elon this will be there biggest “strategic change”. Tesla informed to their Shareholders of the new plan in a letter as "Increasing production five fold over the next two years will be challenging and will likely require some additional capital, but this is our goal and we will be working hard to achieve it,".

As Elon says “as good as Tesla is at design and technology, the company needs to up its game as a manufacturer”. Elon has taken this big target as a personal responsibility where he has a desk at the end of the production line where he keeps a sleeping bag.

Up to now Tesla has managed to deliver 50,000 units per year, which they targeting to increase up to 80,000 by this year. And the biggest challenge to them is increasing the number of units per year to 500,000 by two years, which needs extra capital and more employees. Finally he invited "best manufacturing people in the world" to join with them to achieve companies target of being "super good at making large complex objects."
