Google loon Balloon has fallen down [Video + Photo] – Sri Lanka Gampola

Google sent this balloon from US and entered Sri Lankan air space on last 15th February to be settle  above 75000 feet. However it has been fallen down to a rural village of Sri Lanka called Gampola.

Google launched this project with the intention to provide internet access to rural areas. This Helium based balloon can operate up to 100 days at its altitude which is about 20km above the earth surface. Balloon will not affect passenger airplane operations as the air planes fly above 10km to the surface and will not be harmful to the wildlife. Balloons capable of providing LTE signals to ground area about 80km of diameter connecting mobile phones and other devices to the global internet using high-speed links.

Google launched there project on 2013 as a test pilot project in New Zealand, where a small group of experts carried out an experimental project to improve the technology for the next stages.

Balloon-powered internet for everyone” it’s called. For sure Google must have thought about the public safety not only flying passenger planes and wild life but the people below also.

It’s nice to see world corporate giants like Google, thinking about giving the internet access to people on rural areas around the world. What if all of them can get together and end or reduce the world starvation death rates too.
